The answer actually starts more than a year before the wedding day.
Jess and Scott were living in Australia while planning a wedding in Central Otago.
Like a lot of couples I work with, they were juggling busy jobs, life across the ditch and trying to plan a wedding from another country.
They didn’t want another project to manage.
They wanted to enjoy being engaged.
From our very first conversation, they were clear about how they wanted their wedding to feel.
Fun. Relaxed. Intimate
Everything we planned came back to those three words.
No fuss. No performance. Just incredible views, great food and a day spent with the people they love most.
I absolutely loved bringing this one to life.
The part that mattered most
When I asked Jess + Scott what ended up mattering most on the day, they didn’t hesitate.
“Celebrating our day surrounded by our friends and family and seeing everyone with a smile on their face having fun!”
Honestly, that’s the whole brief.
Every decision we made simply supported that feeling.
Planning a wedding from Australia
Planning a destination wedding sounds romantic… until you’re trying to coordinate venues, suppliers, styling, timelines and logistics from another country.
That’s why Jess and Scott chose full wedding planning.
Instead of spending evenings chasing quotes, researching suppliers and trying to coordinate a wedding from another country, they handed the planning over.
That meant they could spend their engagement being exactly what they were supposed to be…
Engaged.
By the time they arrived in New Zealand, the big decisions had already been made, the suppliers were booked, and the plan was in place.
Their only job was to enjoy it.
The scenery everyone’s still talking about
Ask any guest what they remember most, and you’ll probably hear the same answer.
The views.
Jess + Scott put it perfectly:

Mt Rosa is one of those venues where you don’t need to compete with the landscape. We kept the styling intentional and let the mountains do what they do best.
The decision that paid off more than expected
If you’re wondering whether a content creator is worth it, Jess and Scott would probably tell you yes.
It was something I recommended during the planning process, and it’s now one of the things they’re most grateful they invested in.
“The reels we received were beautiful and a true representation of our day, and looking through all the raw footage truly takes us back to our day!”
Your wedding day disappears in a blur.
A good content creator gives you the chance to relive it, not just remember it.
When the wind had other plans
Every wedding has a moment that doesn’t quite go to plan.
For Jess and Scott, it was the wind.
It picked up early enough to cause some stress, but that’s exactly why having someone there matters.
A few styling adjustments later, everything was ready to go.
Jess and Scott didn’t have to solve the problem.
They just got married.
And in the end?
“It resulted in some amazing veil photos!”
Sometimes the thing you worry about most ends up creating your favourite photos.
Making it theirs
Although they wanted to keep everything simple, there were still plenty of personal touches.
One of my favourites was the wedding cake, lovingly made by Jess’s mum.
It wasn’t about making the biggest statement (although it certainly did that!). It was about including things that meant something. Jess was also driven to the ceremony in her dad’s vintage car.
Those are often the details people remember most.
They also made every decision based on one simple question:
Does this feel like us?
Because when you stop worrying about how your wedding should look, you create space to enjoy how it feels.
Would they change anything?
Not a single thing.
“We both loved everything, and looking back at the day we just wish we could relive it over again because it was perfect.”
Their advice for other couples
This is always one of my favourite questions.
Jess and Scott kept it wonderfully simple.
“Don’t stress yourself over the small stuff. When it comes down to it, the most important part is being together and celebrating your love.”
They had one more piece of advice too.
Hire a wedding planner.
“It was the best thing we ever did. We both trusted Kirsty and she guided us and ensured our vision came to life!”
Why full planning matters
Full wedding planning doesn’t start on the wedding day.
It starts months earlier.
It’s about taking away the mental load that comes with planning a wedding.
Making decisions easier.
Keeping the planning moving.
Giving couples the confidence that someone else is thinking about all the little things, so they don’t have to.
So when the wedding day finally arrives…
Jess and Scott are free to experience it.
Behind the scenes, I was keeping everything moving. Liaising with suppliers, making styling adjustments, keeping the flowers hydrated in the heat, and making sure Jess and Scott always had time for the moments that mattered most.
That’s the part of wedding planning most guests never see.
And honestly?
That’s exactly how it should be.
“…, you took all the stress out of the day for us both. We are both very busy people and you ensured everything was organised for our day.”

Jess and Scott summed it up better than I ever could:
“We had the absolute best day and are so grateful to everyone who was involved. All of our friends and family also had an amazing time, and we will always look back on our day with such happiness about everything!”
Fun.

FAQs for couples planning a Queenstown destination wedding
Should I hire a wedding content creator as well as a photographer?
If you want more than still photos to remember your day by, absolutely. Jess and Scott’s content creator captured reels and behind-the-scenes footage that helped them relive the day’s atmosphere, not just the highlights.
What if the weather doesn’t cooperate?
It doesn’t have to become your problem. Wind, rain or unexpected changes are all part of outdoor weddings. The key is having someone there to adapt quickly so you can stay present and keep enjoying your day.
Is it worth hiring a planner for a Queenstown destination wedding?
If you’re planning from Australia or overseas, I believe so.
Instead of trying to manage suppliers, styling, logistics and timelines from another country, you can enjoy being engaged while someone local brings everything together on your behalf.
When your wedding day arrives, your only job is to turn up, get married and enjoy every minute of it.
